NAACP IMAGE AWARDS NEWBIES: Lizzo, H.E.R., Tamron Hall & More Rock Edgy Looks For Their Red Carpet Debut

One time for the one time! There were a few NAACP Image Award newbies that hit the red carpet. Peep flicks of Lizzo, H.E.R., Tamron Hall and more snap it up in their edgy looks inside!

Tonight is a night of firsts!

This year is the first time the NAACP Image Awards airs on the BET network (airing simultaneously on several Viacom stations) and it is the first time several of your faves hit the red carpet for the annual awards show, dubbing the Black Oscars.

Singer Lizzo was looking good as hell when she hit the red carpet in a custom Mary Katrantzou dress, Dena Kemp jewels, and micro Lynn Ban gold bar bag. She even put a funky spin on her hair rocking an afro ponytail with faux locs pinned in the front.

As she made her way down the carpet, she stopped to laugh it up with the awards show host, Anthony Anderson.

Singer/nominee H.E.R. hit the carpet before she hits the stage to perform. She's nominated for four awards, including Oustanding Album, Outstanding Song - Contemporary, Outstanding Music Video and Outstanding Female Artist.

 

 

 

 

Make way for the Oscar winner!

Hair Love director Matthew A. Cherry made his NAACP Image Awards debut. While on the carpet, he talked about Congressman John Lewis' legacy. "He is the physical embodiment of a life that is dedicated to work that is bigger than himself."

The film director said winning the Best Animated Short Film Academy Award was "unreal." After partying into the wee hours of the morning, he a 7AM call time, so it was super rough for him, but well worth it. After the ceremony, he hit up Jay-Z & Beyonce's Gold Party and he mentioned it was his first time meeting the Carters' daughter Blue Ivy. He said he's going to read his book at her school. Red carpet host Terrence J also said Hov was super excited to meet Matthew at the party, seeking him out more than he was anybody else.  Gotta love it.

Werk, new mama! Daytime talk show host/nominee/presenter Tamron Hall hit the carpet for the first time, serving via all angles in a pink ruffled Oscar de la Renta gown.

When asked what Black Excellence meant to her, she responded, “Working harder and working smarter. Recognizing all of the amazing people here tonight.”

 

It was "All Rise" actress Simone Missick's first time on the red carpet as a nominee. The Detroit native is nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.

On the carpet, she was accompanied by her actor husband Dorian Missick.

"When They See Us" actor Ethan Herisse said he made sure to pick out something dapper for his first time on the carpet. He rocked a Ted Baker suit. The young actor said his dream role would be playing the son of Hollywood titans Denzel Washington or Mahershala Ali.
