Amazon has decided to suspend the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF) amid controversy surrounding the foundations’ finances. Deets inside…
The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF) has been suspended from receiving donations on Amazon’s charity platform as controversy builds about the group’s financial transparency. Apparently, the foundation has failed to disclose how the tens of millions of dollars it received years ago was allocated,
An Amazon spokesperson told revealed AmazonSmile, which gives a portion of eligible purchases on the online shopping site to charities, “had to temporarily suspend” the group.
“States have rules for nonprofits, and organizations participating in AmazonSmile need to meet those rules,” the spokesperson said. “Unfortunately this organization fell out of compliance with the rules in several states, so we’ve had to temporarily suspend them from the program until they come into compliance.”
Amazon plans to hold the funds donated to BLMGNF “until they’re back in compliance,” the spokesperson said.
According to reports, BLMGNF raked in more than $65 million in donations from Thousand Currents, a charity that manages assets of grassroots nonprofits, in October 2020. Almost a year and a half later, the group has yet to disclose where the money has gone. As a result, several states have revoked its ability to collect donations.
Last week, the organization released their federal tax filing and there seems to be some missing items - like contributions or grants during the January-to-June reporting period. BLM has hired Hillary Clinton’s campaign lawyer - Marc Elias - to sort out the financial fiasco.
